Online Kalooki is making a massive impact in the online gaming scene and has seen plenty of players migrate from poker to Kalooki, especially since the UIGEA came into effect in the US making it very difficult for players to make deposits at Online Poker sites. Since Online Kalooki is a game of skill, it is not classed as gambling and therefore is legal in most countries, including many of those that currently do not allow its citizens to play poker.
The goal of the game is very simple - get rid of all your cards before anyone else!
Each player is dealt a stack of cards, which you then sort into various hands (or Melds as they are known in the game) melds are very similar to the hands played in poker, for example you could form a set (i.e. 4 Kings) or a run (i.e. 5,6 & 7 of Clubs)
To start the game, you take a card from either the face up deck or the face down deck and add it to your hand, you then try to form enough melds to score 51 points, at which point you can lay them down in the middle of the table - the Meld area.
If you don’t have enough melds to make 51 points or more, you put down 1 of your un-needed cards on the face up deck and play moves to the next person.
The points system in Online Kalooki is simply equivalent to the face value of the card (or 10 points in the case of picture cards and 11 points in the case of the Aces)
Once you have added your hands to the meld area, play becomes much easier as you can add single cards to existing melds on the table (yours or other players) for example if 5,6 & 7 of clubs already exists in the communal meld area, you can add an 8 (or 4) of clubs to it to form a longer run.
Once you have got rid of all of you cards you are announced the winner and all players have points deducted from them equivalent to the value of the cards in their hand.
Play now continues and players are eliminated as soon as they get down to a pre-defined number of points (usually 200, but this varies slightly from game to game)
The winner is the person remaining in the game after all other players have been eliminated.
